This article contains light spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, streaming now on Disney+.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special confirms that two notable stars exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While lost in Los Angeles and trying desperately to locate Peter Quill's idol Kevin Bacon, Drax and Mantis pick up a star map that leads them on a trail of Hollywood icons. On their way to Bacon, Drax and Mantis supposedly pass by the locations of John Cena and Margot Robbie, confirming the actors' existence in the MCU. Notably, Cena and Robbie have worked with director James Gun in the past, both starring in DC's The Suicide Squad.

In addition to Cena and Robbie, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special also officially introduced MCU fans to Bacon. While Bacon (and his hit movie Footloose) were mentioned in previous Guardians films, MCU fans had yet to actually see the actor. Speaking of his experience filming the Disney+ special, Bacon expressed how much fun he had filming a musical number with an alien version of Old 97's. "I love to sing, I love to play, James sent me that song and I thought it was a really cool song," Bacon explained. "It's very hard to come up with a new idea for a Christmas song, but the Old '97s cut this really cool Christmas song and I got to sing it with them. They're actually in the band in alien make-up, so I had nothing but fun."

Kevin Bacon Appeared in a Previous Marvel Project

Gunn addressed casting Bacon in the special despite the fact that the actor previously starred as the villain of previous Marvel flick X-Men: First Class. With the multiverse being confirmed, it's possible Bacon's Sebastian Shaw could appear in the MCU down the line, but that doesn't seem to worry Gunn. The director explained that he and MCU boss Kevin Feige always focus on the project right in front of them rather than ones further down the road. "You may have a plan about how you want to do something down the road, but if it screws up the thing right in front of you, then it doesn’t work," Gunn said.

Unlike his villainous turn in X-Men: First Class, Bacon plays quite a likable character in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, dead set on spreading some Christmas cheer to Quill and the gang. In fact, The GotG Holiday Special is the first MCU project without a villain. Gunn claimed it helped to shoot the special and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 simultaneously because the trilogy capper is a very emotional and intense film, whereas the holiday special was always meant to be low-stakes and goofy.
