In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," Star-Lord's motley crew will face something they've never faced before: a multi-dimensional creature called an Abilisk.

During a Facebook Q&A, director James Gunn explained the circumstances behind a piece of concept art released by Empire Magazine. "That's an Abilisk, a multi-dimensional being, and the Guardians have been hired to fight him," he shared, but didn't offer any further details.

However, it's worth pointing out that Gunn calls the creature a "multi-dimensional being," considering that upcoming Marvel Studios film "Doctor Strange" will "deal heavily with other dimensions," according to director Scott Derrickson. At this point, though, there's no concrete link between the two.

What's more, the Guardians' battle with the Abilisk likely won't be the only big action sequence. "I have a huge battle scene in 'Guardians 2,' which actually started in storyboards before it was a screenplay," Gunn shared. "I drew it all out first, because I saw it visually in my head."

He also weighed in on Baby Groot, who appears in the bottom left-hand corner of the piece. "Obviously, Baby Groot is much different than Groot in the comics. He's not just grown Groot; he's, y'know, different," he said.

"Don't expect Baby Groot to do too much changing in the second movie," he added.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” opens on May 5, 2017.
