The upcoming video game Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy will feature alternate costumes inspired by its main characters' Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts, Senior Narrative Director Mary DeMarle has confirmed.

DeMarle and Senior Gameplay Director Patrick Fortier recently sat down for an exclusive interview with CBR, which had just played a build of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy that included Gamora's outfit from Marvel Studios' first Guardians of the Galaxy film as one of the unlocked costumes. Fortier and DeMarle were asked if players could expect any more MCU-inspired cosmetics, as well as if any of the game's alternate costumes stood out as some of their favorites.

"Oh, I like Peter's classic blue Guardians costume from the comics. I think it just looks great," said Fortier.

"I don't know that I have a favorite," DeMarle confessed. "I actually really like the designs that we came up with for them, and I've gotten so used to it that the first time I put on a costume, I had to change it back because it felt weird! But there are a lot of costumes in there. And so far as the MCU, yeah, there are a few nods in there as well."

Set for release next month, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy finds the team of Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax the Destroyer looking to make a quick buck several years after an intergalactic war shook the universe. When one of their scams goes awry and sets off a catastrophic chain of events, the Guardians must rise to the occasion in order to correct their mistake and preserve the fragile peace the universe enjoys.

While the Guardians of the Galaxy's history in Marvel Comics dates back to 1969, many fans first became aware of the team thanks to the 2014 Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy, written and directed by James Gunn. The 10th film in the MCU, Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy took its cues from Marvel Comics' 2008 incarnation of the team.

A sequel to Gunn's film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, was released in 2017. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Additionally, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is expected to hit the Disney+ streaming service in December of 2022.

Developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy releases on Oct. 26 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
