Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy celebrates going gold with a gif that serves as a fun reference to an iconic meme.

Posted to the game's Twitter page, the gif in question features Star-Lord and Cosmo the Spacedog dancing together in a goofy, rhythmless manner. While the image itself is a joyful celebration of the developer Eidos Montreal's achievement, it's also a faithful recreation of the Brazil Dance Dog meme. The original clip, first uploaded to YouTube in 2016, features a young Brazilian boy dancing alongside what appears to be a stray dog. The gif posted by Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is an uncanny emulation of the pair's dance.

"Going gold" is widely considered to be one of the most important steps in game development, signaling that the game is practically finished and ready for mass production. The "gold" version of the game will be used as the master copy, used to create subsequent iterations that will be sold to consumers. Now that Guardians of the Galaxy has surpassed this milestone, it's likely that the game's release date will not shift.

While this means that Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is in a complete enough state to be commercially sold, it's still possible that a few updates will be required to finish off the game. Eidos Montreal has yet to announce whether its intergalactic superhero adventure will require a Day One patch to fix any last-minute issues. A recent leak did confirm that the PlayStation 5 version of the game will require around 41.243GB of free space; the storage required for other platforms is currently unknown.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy places players in the stylish boots of Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord as he attempts to keep his dysfunctional gang of misfit adventurers together. Alongside Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, players will travel across the galaxy, recruiting new teammates and taking down a variety of dangerous creatures. During combat, Star-Lord will be able to dance around the battlefield, issuing commands to his fellow Guardians, gaining buffs from his collection of licensed music.

In terms of supporting characters, Eidos Montreal has confirmed that players will encounter fan-favorites throughout the game, including Mantis and, obviously, Cosmo the Spacedog. Relatively obscure Marvel characters like Lady Hellbender and Grand Unifier Raker will also appear.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy launches on Oct. 26 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
