The effort to get Disney to rehire James Gunn inspired some fans to buy major ad space. A group paid for a digital billboard at an intersection in Garden Grove, CA, over four miles away from Disneyland in Anaheim to get Gunn his job back as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

"We really love Gunn as both a creator and the man we've seen him mature into," Giuseppe Cincinnato, a chef from Ohio and one of the people behind the billboard told The Hollywood Reporter. "Even if this wasn't going to cause Disney to see their mistake, we could at least show James Gunn how much support he has in his corner of the galaxy."

The ad, paid for with $4,000 raised by a GoFundMe campaign, reads "Save the Galaxy: James Gunn for Vol. 3." A link to their website, RehireJamesGunn.com, appears at the bottom.

The campaign is still raising money and is working to get another billboard up that is closer to Disneyland ahead of the Christmas holiday. The current ad will stay up until the end of November.

Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after old controversial tweets resurfaced online. A Change.org petition to get his job back has over 422,000, signatures, a number that keeps growing.
