Since their first film arrived in 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy have been a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among the group's members is furry little antihero Rocket Raccoon, who was originally partnered up with Groot in the first film.

Concept art from Jerad S. Marantz gives Rocket a new ally with a more elephantine form. Shared on Instagram, Marantz's artwork sees Rocket riding on the back of the aforementioned ally, who looks like an armored green elephant with three trunks, while Rocket carries a gun. "Here’s a really fun background alien concept I did for the first guardians of the galaxy film," Marantz stated in the description for the upload. "I have no idea where that would’ve worked or why I decided to go in that direction."

Debuting in 1976's Marvel Preview #7, the comic version of Rocket Raccoon was created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Keith Giffen. Rocket was eventually given his own series and went on to star in 2008's Guardians of the Galaxy series. The character can currently be seen in writer Al Ewing's run on Guardians of the Galaxy.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to begin filming in February 2021. Its current release date is targeted for 2023.
