Though she died in Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame ended with Gamora's fate unknown. After all, a more lethal version of her from 2014 had been transported into the relative present before she was convinced by the present incarnation of her sister Nebula to turn against Thanos. But despite that late-game change, this Damore remains unsure of her motivations, and thus disappeared before she would ahem to face people she doesn't know, even if they know her.
With this version of the character still on the loose, and Star-Lord ostensibly searching for her, star Zoe Saldana expressed her desires of where to take her character next during Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 during a panel this past weekend at ACE Comic-Con in Seattle.
"The technical answer is, it all depends on what Marvel and James Gunn desire to do with the Guardians and with Gamora's fate," Saldana explained. "There's a part of me that wants her to go back, find her way back to the Guardians, but there's also a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora. I've never seen that and she's, you know, she's considered the most lethal assassin, the most lethal woman in the galaxy, so I would want to see what that wrath looks like also because it would just give me layers to sort of work on. But yeah, I want her to get back to the Guardians."
The prime timeline version's of Gamora had been brutally murdered by her adoptive father Thanos on Vormir in exchange for the Soul Stone during Avengers: Infinity War. The surviving time-displaced Gamora lacks the years of camaraderie with the Guardians of the Galaxy, instead presumably hiding out somewhere in deep space to resurface in Gunn's planned sequel.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not currently have a release date. The film is reportedly scheduled to begin production in February 2021.
