Vin Diesel, who provides the voice of everyone's favorite talking tree Groot, has offered some hints about what fans can expect from the character in Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

"I only have two words about that character and it is 'Alpha Groot,'" Diesel told ComicBook.com. The actor didn't offer any further information on the changes Groot will receive, though he may be hinting that the third film will feature the strongest version of the character yet.

Groot made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy as the partner and best friend of Rocket Raccoon. However, after sacrificing himself to save his fellow Guardians, he was reborn into what fans quickly dubbed "Baby Groot." By the post-credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, he had evolved into an angsty "Teenage Groot," which is the version of the character fans most recently saw in Avengers: Endgame.

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn't currently have a release date, writer/director James Gunn already has already turned in a script, and production on the film is planned to begin in February 2021.
