Chris Pratt, who portrays Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has said that 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be a "true masterpiece."

The actor went into detail about the upcoming MCU film, which he described as being "fantastic," in an interview with Digital Spy. "[Director] James Gunn just watched a rough assembly the other day. I called him yesterday. We Facetimed, and he's very, very proud of the work that everyone's done," Pratt shared. "He said it's the best work all of us have ever done. He feels very, very confident. The script was amazing." Pratt continued, saying, "I can say with utter confidence that [Gunn has] made a true masterpiece, and I just cannot wait for people to see it," the actor said. "It's James Gunn. He did all three movies, which is really rare and really special in the world of big box-office trilogies."

The Terminal List star first played Star-Lord in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. Although the star has found immense industry success as a leading man since then, he has also found himself in controversy due to his alleged ties with the anti-LGBTQ+ Hillsong Church, which Pratt recently denied. "I never went to Hillsong. I've never actually been to Hillsong," Pratt said. "I don't know anyone from that church."

Guardians of the Galaxy's Expanding Universe

The upcoming third installment in Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which finished filming in early May, will see the return of the titular team following the events of Thor: Love and Thunder, which will feature the Guardians in a supporting capacity. Although very little concrete information on the film's story is known at this time, fans of Gunn's work may be excited to see Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji's "truly explosive performance" as the film's villain.

In addition, some, but not all, of the team will appear in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will release later this year on Disney+, although not the whole team. "Not all of [the Guardians of the Galaxy] are even in the Holiday special," Gunn wrote in a recent tweet. "It's part of MCU canon, & contains some important new elements in the Guardians' story." The Holiday Special is also set to introduce multiple new characters to Marvel Studios' long-running superhero franchise.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will enter theaters on May 23, 2023. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrives on Disney+ this holiday season.
