Karen Gillan is preparing for her return as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Posted to her Instagram story, Gillan filmed herself sitting for the creation of her lifecast, offering a look at the process that goes into becoming her character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "So this is what happens when you need to wear prosthetics in a film," Gillan said in the video, covered from her head to her shoulders in the Nebula mold. "Normally they would do the whole face too, but my claustrophobia was so bad they kindly left my face and they're gonna do it separately."

She went on to explain that "they cover you with two layers of thick goo and then they mummify you with bandages." The videos then show the team of makeup artists breaking the mold away from Gillan before moving on to cast her face.

Gillan has portrayed Nebula, the adopted daughter of Thanos and sister to Zoe Saldana's Gamora, since the first Guardians of the Galaxy film in 2014. She has previously stated that writer/director James Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the "best of the trilogy," teasing that the film will explore a post-Thanos Nebula after the Mad Titan's demise in Avengers: Endgame. While Gillan will reprise her role as Nebula in the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, the character will appear first in Thor: Love and Thunder when the film releases in 2022.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Elizabeth Debicki. The film arrives in theaters May 5, 2023.
