Marvel Studios has released a new promo for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which humorously promises a "happy ending" to writer-director James Gunn's Marvel Cinematic Universe trilogy. Thus far, the trailers for Guardians 3 have been humorous, but have also leaned heavily into the emotional (and potentially tragic) aspects of the trilogy's conclusion. While the latest promo is also ripe with emotion, it does shift to a lighthearted and even somewhat triumphant place, complete with a reprise of "Hooked on a Feeling." As far as the humor goes, it ends on a tongue-in-cheek note, with the narrator inviting moviegoers to start their summer with a "happy ending" over the scene of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) staring longingly at Nebula (Karen Gillan) -- who preemptively and vocally rejects any potential advances. The promo then cuts to a scene where Rocket (Bradley Cooper) declares, "You got issues, Quill."RELATED: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Clip Sees Gamora and Star-Lord Reconnect

The Guardians Prepare for One Last Dance

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated to release in theaters on Friday, May 5 as part of Phase Five of the MCU. The film serves as not only a follow-up to fellow theatrical releases Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), but also The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which debuted on Disney+ last year and established some key plot points heading into the third and final Guardians feature film.

In addition to Pratt as Star-Lord, Gillan as Nebula and Cooper as Rocket, the anticipated threequel features the return of fellow Guardians veterans Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot and Sean Gunn as Kraglin. The film also stars Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog (reprising her role from the Holiday Special), Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary and Will Poulter as Adam Warlock.

An official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reads as follows: "In Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opens in theaters on May 5.
