Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn recently teased the upcoming film is not going to be what audiences expect it to be.

In an interview with Collider, Gunn assured audiences that filming is progressing. He then highlighted actor Chukwudi Iwuji's performance as a yet unknown character and finally teased, "I think that I'm really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. [Kevin Feige] went... They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it's not going to be the movie people... It's different than what people are going to expect. It's a hard road, but I'm really happy with it so far."

Gunn has touched on some of the major differences between the upcoming third instalment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and those that preceded it. In a recent interview, Gunn explained that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be darker than past films, though he did not divulge any more details. "It's a really rough shoot because it's dark and deep and goes into all the characters."

While the overall plot and tone of the film remain a mystery, Gunn has touched on some of the new characters audiences will see. As mentioned, he praised Iwuji's performance, stating, "Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out." He also praised actor Will Poulter, who will make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Adam Warlock, the entity created by the Sovereign at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Of Poulter, Gunn said, "He's the best. He's killing it. People are going to really love Adam -- or love? They're going to appreciate Adam Warlock, I'll say... He's great and Adam Warlock is great and I can't wait for people to see it."
