James Gunn has told fans there are still a ton of unearthed Easter eggs hiding in plain sight when it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.Despite viewers having mined a whole planet of Easter eggs from the 2017 movie, Gunn says one scene in particular still has a treasure trove that even the most eagle-eyed fans have missed. Be warned though, this isn't one for the faint-hearted.

Discussing the film during a quarantine watch party, Gunn said the moment where Ego's pile of skeletons is discovered is worth a rewatch. The moment he's talking about is when Nebula and Gamora came across the murdered bodies of Ego's children, and while Gunn didn't reveal what any of them are, one fan wrote, "Creepiest Easter egg hunt ever."

One of the movie's big twists revealed Peter Quill/Star-Lord was a demigod and the Celestial Ego was his father. Ego the Living Planet became the big bad of the movie, though, and it turned out he was just using Quill as part of his scheme to take over the galaxy. The skeleton scene is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part of Vol. 2, meaning fans will now have to go back and pause the exact moment.

Easter eggs are nothing new in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, they've become a staple of the franchise. However, Gunn's two Guardians movies have packed in more Easter eggs than the standard MCU adventure. From Stan Lee saying "Excelsior" in Skrull to Howard the Duck and Cosmo the Space Dog, there's also a flashback to Eson the Searcher and a potential tease of Adam Warlock.

Gunn only recently doubled down on the elusive Easter egg that's still undiscovered in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. The director has teased that it's a big one but explained fans have only partially worked out about 60% of it. Elsewhere, he reiterated that the coordinates around the severed Celestial head of Knowhere might be worth a second look.

Ego's pile of dead children isn't the only macabre Easter egg in the franchise. The first movie had the skeleton of Beta Ray Bill's Korbinite race in the background of Quill's quest for the Power Stone on Morag.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently has no release date. The film is expected to begin production in February 2021.
