Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Zoe Saldana spends a lot of time in green makeup to portray the Zenwhoberian alien Gamora, and in a new video she shows fans that getting it off of her skin isn't a quick process.

Saldana, who has played Gamora in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, is currently filming for the third installment in the trilogy. She posted the video of herself scrubbing green coloring from her face and neck on her Instagram under the text, "Bye #gamora, See you next week," and added a touch of humor by setting it next to a video of a rodent attempting to clean soap out of its fur.

Difficult as it is to apply and remove, the Gamora makeup that Saldana wears is an important trademark of the character, applied to all of her skin which is visible onscreen. In addition to the green and gold of Gamora's natural coloration from Marvel's comics, she bears silver markings representing the cybernetic modifications she endured as a Daughter of Thanos.

Like the other Guardians, Gamora was originally a criminal but had a change of heart and helped to form the misfit hero group to save the planet of Xandar in the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Gradually she entered a romantic relationship with team leader Peter Quill/Star-Lord, and reconciled with her adoptive sister Nebula.

In Avengers: Infinity War, the original timeline's Gamora was murdered by Thanos to obtain the Soul Stone. However, Endgame introduced another Gamora from an earlier era, who had never joined the Guardians of the Galaxy but ultimately chose to take their side in the final battle anyway.

Although she struck out on her own at the end of that movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will pick up the story of Quill and the other Guardians attempting to find this time-displaced Gamora. Further details on the plot of the film are still being kept under wraps, though one returning cast member has also shared a look at his costume: Sylvester Stallone will be back as Stakar Ogord, also known as Starhawk, who he first brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently planned for a May 5, 2023 release.
