"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is neither pulled nor delayed, still scheduled for May 5, 2023," Gunn tweeted on Oct. 18. "We are scripted and storyboarded, crewed and casted [sic], and ready to go in just a little bit here. We’re going to build you guys something beautiful."

Screen Rant writer Cooper Hood then wondered if other major roles have been cast after it was recently confirmed that Will Poulter will play Adam Warlock in the film. Gunn then claimed that "Dozens of roles have been cast" for the film, though he didn't go into details.

While the casting of Poulter as Warlock is likely the biggest new character addition, the previous film (and most Marvel sequels) have added numerous new roles. Though Gunn could be referring to smaller parts, like the various Ravagers on the periphery of Guardians 2, these could be more major comic book characters.

Aside from Warlock and the mystery characters Gunn alluded to, the third Guardians film will see the return of nearly all of the previous main characters. Also back will be Sean Gunn's Kraglin, now rocking Yondu's fin and arrow, and Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha, who will be responsible for the creation of Adam Warlock, as teased in one of Guardians 2's credits scenes.

The movie will also heavily focus on Nebula, Gamora, and Mantis, and there have been teases that Rocket's backstory will also be explored more fully. This could be where some of the new characters come in, as many have been hoping that Rocket's comic book love, Lylla, will join the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
