Out of all the things we saw at the end of Avengers: Endgame, by far the most exciting prospect was seeing Thor head off with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The next Thor film has been confirmed by James Gunn to be set before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so the chances of seeing him with the Guardians seem slim.

However, we can still fantasize about Thor being in this film for now until any other announcements are made. Thor has been set up quite nicely to have a good role in Vol. 3, and here are 10 possible storylines that he might have in the film.

10 Vying For Gamora's Affections

In Avengers: Infinity War, Star-Lord was clearly uncomfortable with the way Thor was getting flirty with Gamora, and stepped in between before Gamora might start getting interested in the God of Thunder.

Now that the 2018 version of Gamora is dead, there’s nothing stopping the 2014 version from falling for Thor. After all, this one never fell in love with Star-Lord and has no association with him. This could leave us out for a hilarious three-way love story where Star-Lord and Thor both vie for Gamora’s affections.

9 Joining The Ravagers

Thor’s whole reason for leaving New Asgard was to go and find a purpose for himself. Out in space, it seems like all the people without direction end up with the Ravagers, making it an option for Thor.

The pathway to becoming a Ravager is there for him as well, as Star-Lord and Kraglin both have roots that stem from the Ravagers’ clan. Thor could come across these people before taking a liking to their ideology since the Ravagers seem to thrive on not taking responsibilities.

8 Losing The Weight

Thor could just be there in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without a big arc to go through, and his entire screentime can comprise of him becoming the fit version of himself. The Fat Thor version doesn’t seem like an easy one to get out of, but how fun would it be to have Thor show up in the film with nothing much but a problem to get back into shape?

We can have other characters join in on Thor’s mission to get healthy again, with easy candidates in Drax, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot to help coach Thor in the gym or have funny interactions with him.

7 Finding Lost Asgardians

We don’t yet know how the Asgardians found their way back to Earth, but there were casualties for sure when Thanos made his big Snap. These people wouldn’t have arrived on Earth, so they must still be out in space.

Perhaps Thor could happen upon this realization in Thor: Love and Thunder, and go out with the Guardians to bring back the Asgardians who are lost without a home. This would give Thor a path to relearn how to be a king.

6 Romance With Lady Sif

Since Jane Foster was meant to be Thor’s love interest in his first two films, Lady Sif was out of place and without much of a role. Now that Jane will be becoming the Mighty Thor, it might mean that Thor will be open to romance someone else.

As an extension of our previous suggestion, Thor can happen upon Lady Sif while searching for any lost Asgardians. There on out, the two can bond over their time on Asgard and realize they were meant for each other all along. One can just imagine what kind of name Drax could come up with for Thor and Sif’s child.

5 Forming A Trio With Rocket And Groot

In the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, Rocket and Groot’s roles were to mainly bring the comedy and action. As we’ve already seen Thor establish friendships with both of them, he can be integrated into this dynamic to form a trio.

So, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 can have the three cement their relationship and be off on their own adventure while the rest of the Guardians are busy with the main storyline. A repeat of the formula from Avengers: Infinity War can only be a good thing.

4 Becoming The Leader Of The Guardians

The ending of Avengers: Endgame hinted at some tensions between Star-Lord and Thor, as the latter teased that he may be interested in assuming leadership of the Guardians. Although that was just a joke on Thor’s part, he might just be what the Guardians need.

Star-Lord and Gamora might decide they don’t want to do Guardian duty anymore and settle down somewhere else, leaving Thor as the new leader of this dysfunctional band. As Thor wasn’t a fan of traditional leadership roles, he can be comfortable taking over a group that is so unorthodox.

3 Finding A New Home

We don’t know yet where the Guardians will be heading in the next movie, but it will most likely be in the farthest reaches of space. Out there, no one knows what awaits our heroes, and the third installment can be centered around the heroes visiting new worlds.

During this adventure, Thor can happen upon a planet where he feels most at home and accustoms himself with the people there. If Marvel wants to bring Thor’s story to a full end, the option is open for them to have Thor make a new planet his home and retire.

2 Appearing In Flashbacks

Since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set after Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s most likely that Thor won’t have much of a role to play in the former movie. Still, that doesn’t mean he can’t be involved at all, and the film can have Thor appear in flashbacks.

These would be set during the time when Thor was with the Guardians and can be used in the context of whatever the main story is setting them up for. It’s most probable that Yondu will also be seen in flashbacks, so the film can make these scenes something that sets the movie up for the climax with Thor’s scenes having weight during the finale.

1 Facing Off Against Adam Warlock

If you’ll remember the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Adam Warlock’s birth was just around the corner. Now, it’s been ten years since that happened in the MCU chronology, which means Adam could be seen in adult form due to some technical wizardry.

None of the Guardians are remotely powerful enough to go up against big-time foes, and this leaves only Thor as the one who can be a game-changer. It would also give us a highly anticipated battle to watch, and establish Adam Warlock as the real deal.
