The deadliest woman in the galaxy has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Actor Zoe Saldana, who is perhaps best known as Gamora in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday. Over the course of her nearly two-decade long career, Saldana has quickly become one of the biggest genre stars appearing in films such as Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy and Paramount's recent Star Trek trilogy, establishing her as one of the go-to names in the science-fiction genre. However, for Saldana, who later expressed her gratitude on Instagram, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame once seemed like a pipe-dream.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out today and supported me at this once in a lifetime ceremony. I feel so blessed to be part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Thank you to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for honoring me with a star 💫 and allowing me to be part of history! May this open more doors for latinx and all other under represented community!
Speaking to Variety, Saldana talked about how had she followed in the footsteps of her "forefathers and foremothers," she would have more than likely become a dentist or psychologist. Thankfully, instead, she opted to go against those signs and follow her dreams. "I’m a first-generation Latino and part of my culture is super superstitious. We rely on signs,” she explained. "If I would have followed in the footsteps of my forefathers and foremothers, I think I would have taken that as a sign and become a dentist or a psychologist. But thank God I decided to ignore it and pursue my dreams of becoming an actress."
Regarding her career choices in recent years, Saldana explained that she feels she has truly flourished in the science-fiction genre as it has allowed her to subvert tropes. "Science-fiction is a universe where a person like me who is unimaginable is imaginable by so many filmmakers like J.J. Abrams and James Cameron and James Gunn," she said. The actor feels that by portraying characters such as Neytiri, Uhura and Gamora, she's been allowed to portray characters that are brave, characters that are strong -- that aren't simply the daughter, the wife or girlfriend. For her, that's something she would have never achieved had she fallen into "stereotypical boxes."
The actor is currently coming off the box office phenomenon, Avengers: Infinity War, and is currently filming the Avatar sequels. She's also expected to return for a potential fourth Star Trek installment.
Saldana can currently be seen in Avengers: Infinity War which was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others.
