Guardians of the Galaxy: Early Mantis Look Was Much More Insect-Like

Marvel Studios concept artist Jerad S. Marantz has revealed new concept art for the character Mantis, who made her live-action debut in this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Detailing a much more insect-like look for the character, who was portrayed by Pom Klementieff in her first-ever big-screen appearance, the art is a big departure from the Guardian's final look, which was considerably more human.

Created by Steve Englehart and Don Heck, Mantis first debuted in 1973’s The Avengers #112.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out now on Digital HD from Amazon Video and iTunes and on DVD and Blu-ray. The movie stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.
