The file sizes for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition appeared online, providing fans with an idea of how much hard drive space they'll need to free up.According to PlayStation Game Size, owners of Sony's consoles (either the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5) will need 5.29GB for Grand Theft Auto III, 10.76GB for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and 22.67GB to install Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. All combined, GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition will require a total of 45GB of free space, roughly the same size as the PC version of the game. While that number is refreshingly manageable for a modern video game, it's interesting to compare the sizes to the original PlayStation 2 games.Related: Resident Evil VII Director Says Game Was Inspired By... Back in 2001, Grand Theft Auto III only required a measly 1.56GB while Vice City clocked in at 2.39GB in 2002. The largest of the classic collection was always Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but even then, in 2004, it only required 3.23GB. These drastic changes in size likely indicate the scale to which these open-world games have been overhauled for modern platforms.

Fans of the long-running franchise can expect sweeping improvements in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. Some of the most significant upgrades include:

  • Improved gunplay and targeting controls, with upgraded drive-by controls in GTA: San Andreas.
  • Updated Weapon and Radio Station selection wheels
  • Updated Mini-Maps with enhanced navigation.
  • The ability to immediately restart a failed mission.
  • Improved water and weather effects.
  • A completely rebuilt lighting system with enhanced shadows, reflections, and more.
  • Enhanced detail in trees and foliage.

Beyond these substantial mechanical and graphical changes, the classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy is largely as fans remember it... bar one or two changes to themes and visuals. One example is the shirt worn by prominent side-character Phil Cassidy, which originally bore a Confederate flag. This visual was tweaked for Definitive Edition; Cassidy now simply wears a solid black shirt due to renewed scrutiny of what the flag represents.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition launches for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on Nov. 11. The enhanced version of San Andreas will also be available on Xbox Game Pass when the collection arrives.
