An ominous figure of great power and insatiable hunger has appeared at Monterey Comic Con, brought to life by Kittie Cosplay.
The costume combines the supervillain Thanos (Josh Brolin) of Avengers: Infinity War, in theaters now, with a character much dopier and less dangerous, but just as purple: Grimace.
*SNAP* You’re dust! 😈 Can’t believe #BananaSteve & I were able to pull off making a full Grimace-Thanos aka #Grimos cosplay! Grimos, as he is known, sports a version of Thanos's helmet and mantle, and even has his own version of the Infinity Gauntlet: an oven mitt, appropriately, adorned with Infinity Stones that look suspiciously like colored Chicken McNuggets.
#BananaSteve & I are both such huge fans of #Mythbusters, and it was so great meeting & chatting with @ToryBelleci at #MontereyComicCon! Thank you Tory for all the years of making nerds cool. 😎#ToryBelleci #ComicCon #McVengers #JolliWasp #Jollibee #Grimos #Grimace #Thanos pic.twitter.com/A8ePbb9WnM— Kittie Cosplay (@kittiecosplay) July 2, 2018
Grimace is a character that was created by McDonald's restaurants for its advertisements. He was originally conceived as a sort of fast food villain who tried to steal milkshakes, but was later changed to a benevolent simpleton.
The cosplayers were not alone in noticing the resemblance between the Mad Titan and the milkshake thief. Grimace may not be very familiar to today's children, but he appeared frequently in McDonald's commercials throughout the '80s, an era in American history held dear to Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In the movie, Quill drops one of his trademark references that his space-faring companions can't understand and refers to Thanos as "Grimace."
Grimos seems to have enjoyed his time wandering around the event and meeting fans and fellow villains, and so far, there have been no reports of milkshakes turning to dust. Of course, he may just be having a hard time snapping his fingers in the Infinity Oven Mitt.
