One of Marvel's all-star writers, Donny Cates, and one of DC's legendary artists, Greg Capullo, may be teaming up for a new Marvel project. On Dec. 8, Capullo shared a post on Twitter, asking fans, "I'm about to Marvel up. Cool with that?" The next day, Cates quote tweeted Capullo's message, following up with a GIF image of actor Tom Cruise's Maverick from Top Gun (1986), one where the high-flying pilot smiles and puts on a pair of aviator sunglasses. Whether the two are working on something together, or this is a simple reaction of one creator to another, remains to be seen.RELATED: Marvel Celebrates Stan Lee's 100th Birthday With Heartwarming Humberto Ramos Art

While speaking with CBR at New York Comic Con 2022, Capullo mentioned how he wanted to draw for Marvel again, and that Cates is a writer that has been "after him." The artist said during the interview, "I have intentions of doing something with Marvel," and that frequent collaborator and writer Scott Snyder wanted to join him at the company. However, Capullo continued, "Maybe I'd want to do something with someone else for a minute," adding, "I know Donny Cates is always after me."

Donny Cates’ Insane Project Is on the Way for Marvel

Cates has written numerous titles for Marvel, including Thanos, Venom, Thor and Hulk. In late November, Cates exited Marvel's ongoing Hulk series and appears to have done the same for Thor, passing the reins onto Hulk writer-artist Ryan Ottley and writer Torunn Grønbekk to pen the respective titles. While touching on his title departures, Cates promised fans on Twitter, "I've been working with [Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief C.B. Cebulski,] [Senior Editor Wil Moss] and [Marvel] in the background on something INSANE that will... well, you'll know it when you see it."

Greg Capullo Teams Up With Todd McFarlane for Batman/Spawn

The new issue will feature the Court of Owls as an antagonist, and introduce a "Cosmic Talon" assassin for the two heroes to face.

Written and inked by McFarlane and illustrated by Capullo, Batman/Spawn #1 is colored by Dave McCaig and Sabine Rich, and features main cover art by Capullo. Variant covers for the issue are contributed to by McFarlane, Capullo, McCaig, Rich, Jim Lee, Sean Murphy, Brett Booth, Francesco Mattina, J. Scott Campbell, Gabriele Dell'Otto, Jason Fabok and Jorge Jiménez. The issue goes on sale Dec. 13 from DC Comics.
