He proved this by taking on the Yellow Lanterns and a Mad God, despite the poor odds. Unfornutaly, Sinestro killed Driq and an army of other Green Lanterns by the end of the war. Driq's Power Ring reanimated him and continued to do so every time he fell in battle. This poor Lantern finally found peace at the end of Blackest Night.

8 Arkkis Chummuck

At first glance, you might think that Arkkis is some kind of werewolf. In reality, he's an alien from the planet Toomey VI. The inhabitants of Toomey VI believe that people should literally fight for honor and prestige. When Arkkis decided to become a Green Lantern, he had to fight his predecessor in mortal combat. Arkkis won, inherited Reever's ring, then ate his remains as per Toomey tradition.

7 Abin Sur

Abin Sur is the name of Hal Jordan's immediate predecessor. Rond Vidar is proof that you can always reinvent and redeem yourself. Vidar is the son of Universo - an arch enemy of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Universo tried to mold Vidar into an evil villain just like himself. But Rond rejected Universo's influence and sought to become a hero. This display of willpower impressed the Corps. Rond soon joined the Green Lanterns and helped saved countless lives for many years.

That all came to an end when Rond met Superboy Prime. Vidar was outnumbered and outgunned. He challenged Prime in spite of the odds and fought bravely. Sadly, Prime ended Vidar's life by snapping his neck.

During the War of the Green Lanterns, an evil villain named Krona took over Mogo. John Stewart and Kyle Rayner tried to free their friend from the villain's grasp - to no avail. Tomar-Re and Kilowog are two of Hal Jordan's best friends from the Green Lantern Corps. Tomar is a very cheerful Lantern with a sunny outlook on life. He perfectly balances out Kilowog's militant attitude and Hal's 'hotshot flyboy' demeanor. But Tomar-Re wasn't always such a chipper fellow. Re once harbored a lot of guilt over his failure to protect Space Sector 2813 - the area where Krypton used to be!

This guilt secretly ate away at Tomar-Re for decades until he met a villain named Goldface. The two fought in a desperate battle, but Goldface overpowered Re and strangled him with a Qwardian Weapon.

3 Ch'p

This is an example of one of the saddest Green Lantern deaths in DC comics. Ch'p is an alien space squirrel from the planet H'lven. Despite his small stature, Ch'p has a big heart and strong willpower. He's helped the Corps repel the forces of evil countless times throughout his career. However, all of that changed when the Lanterns lost their Central Power Battery on Oa.

Many members of the Corps died that day. Ch'p, John Stewart, and Salakk were few of the only Lanterns who survived. The tragedy crushed Ch'p, depressing him and pushing him to nearly take his own life. Stewart and Salakk convinced the squirrel to fight against his dark thoughts. Just when Ch'p started to regain hope and faith in the universe, he's run over by a yellow truck.

A while back, Lex Luthor tried to forcibly tear the DC Universe into a Multiverse. Many heroes rose to stop him. Unfortunately, most of those champions died in the process. Jade died once a bolt of cosmic energy struck her down. In her last moments, Jade gave her power to Kyle - helping him transform into the super being Ion.

Parallax

Parallax the Fear Entity possessed Hal Jordan. Using Hal as a puppet, Parallax destroyed the Green Lantern Corps and killed many heroes. Hal regained control by the end of the Emerald Twilight storyline. To redeem himself, Hal flew into the Sun and charged it - ending Parallax's reign and killing himself in the process.
