"Green Lantern" began trending on Twitter today, with fans hoping recent Justice League news signals the hero's arrival in the DCEU.

Earlier today, a massive story on the genesis of Zack Snyder's upcoming cut of Justice League revealed that he filmed a new ending for the movie with a cameo "that will blow hard-core fans' minds." No further details were revealed, but it appears the cameo won't be the appearance of Martian Manhunter or Darkseid, who will both debut in Snyder's version of the film but weren't in Joss Whedon's theatrical cut. Those appearances have been discussed multiple times now, while the new cameo mentioned by Snyder sounds like it will be a surprise. Fans, however, quickly began hoping for the arrival of one of DC's Green Lanterns.

Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and numerous other Green Lanterns have long been fixtures of the Justice League in the comics, and they often appear in other media as well. Stewart was a founding member of the animated team on Justice League and Justice League: Unlimited, and one of the many people to wear the mantle have been planned to appear in a live-action Justice League film, like George Miller's abandoned Justice League: Mortal.

Back in 2015, when marketing was beginning for the upcoming film, an image of Aquaman appeared with the tagline "Unite The Seven." It was believed that Aquaman would be joined by Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Flash, but many assumed a Green Lantern would be the final member. The marketing campaign was soon abandoned and only the six established heroes appeared in the final film. But a flashback in Justice League did include a Green Lantern, and the Hal Jordan version was prominently featured in the new DC Films opening. With a Green Lantern series coming to HBO Max, could one of the cosmic guardians appear at the end of Justice League first?

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, determined to ensure Superman’s ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne aligns forces with Diana Prince with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.
