WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Green Lantern: Season 2 #8, by Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp, Steve Oliff and Steve Wands, on sale now.

While Hal Jordan certainly has his own extensively messy romantic history, he is far from the only Green Lantern to have a complicated love life. John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner have all had their own amorous ups and downs in between patrolling the cosmos with the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. And as the war between the Corps and the Weaponeers of Qward from the Antimatter Universe continues to escalate, a shocking romance between a Qwardian and former Green Lantern has been revealed.

The latest issue of Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp's run on The Green Lantern is told in chronologically reverse order as Hal personally leads a Lantern strike force on a counterattack in response the Qwardians' attack on a medical facility in deep space used by the Corps. In the hours leading up to the cosmic rematch that had been simmering since Morrison and Sharp's first volume, Weaponeer GGG is revealed to have entertained one special liaison before the Corps' surprise attack on the Weaponeers' forge on their home planet of Qward: The version of Sinestro from the Antimatter Universe as evidenced by his speech being in the same pattern as GGG and costume's inverted color scheme.

Sinestro Anti-Matter Love

Sinestro and GGG are seen naked together in the Weaponeer's private quarters before the alarm had been sounded. To keep their relationship a secret, GGG had lied to his fellow Qwardians that he had Sinestro sent to his quarters to torture him personally. As Sinestro begs his Antimatter Universe lover to abandon his rampage against the Corps and run away with him to the positive matter universe to avoid persecution from his violent peers, their relationship is implied to have been sustained in secret for some time. And while the illicit couple runs the very real risk of suffering torture and death for treason at the hands of the Weaponeers, it's clear that GGG genuinely cares for Sinestro before their love affair is interrupted by the Corps' sudden attack.

The main Sinestro from the positive matter DC Universe had fathered a daughter Soranik Natu with his wife Arin Sur, the sister of Abin Sur who had been Hal's immediate predecessor and Sinestro's partner in the same space sector. Years after Sinestro was exposed and ousted from the Corps by Hal for his totalitarian misuse of his Power Ring, Soranik would eventually inherit her father's old ring and learn the shocking truth behind her parentage as she embarked on her own whirlwind romance with fellow Green Lantern Kyle Rayner.

Given his own history with the Antimatter Universe, it's possible that the Sinestro in a relationship with Weaponeer GGG could be the same from the main DCU but, more likely, it is the nobler version of the character introduced by Morrison and Sharp in their previous volume. Just as the positive matter universe's Sinestro had been villainous and cruel, his inverted counterpart from the had been gentle and kind. Hal's appearance may have turned this unlikely ally into his next major villain, however: With his failures and treasonous behavior exposed by Hal's attack, GGG is now captive and tortured by the Qwardians while the antimatter Sinestro may be driven by revenge against Hal for what has happened to his lover.
