The Green Lantern comic artist, Liam Sharp, drew an even more disturbing version of DC's most notable new villain: The Batman Who Laughs.

Sharp posted the image to his Twitter page with the tagline, "I did an alternate #BatmanWhoLaughs just for the hell of it..." His take was a more demonic version of Batman's costume with distorted ears, exposed gums and the left side of his teeth stretched outward like a crazed Joker smile. Batman was drawn in front of a chaotic, high-contrast background that appears like a watercolor mixed with oil paint splatter in order to capture the Batman Who Laugh's twisted personality.

Introduced in the Dark Nights: Metal storyline, The Batman Who Laughs hails from a mirror DC multiverse known as the Dark Multiverse, whose worlds are deeply unstable and birthed from purely awful outcomes. In this universe, Batman killed his Joker but, upon doing so, inhaled a toxin from his body that gave Batman his nemesis' amoral personality and outlook of the world. The Batman Who Laughs then proceeded to kill his entire Bat-family, Justice League and world before being recruited by the dark god Barbatos to invade the Multiverse.

Despite being defeated by the Justice League, as well as a Batman/Joker team-up that even he couldn’t foresee, The Batman Who Laughs has continued to plot ways to destroy the entire Multiverse. He attempted to kill the prime Earth Batman before secretly infecting multiple DC heroes with the toxin Joker used on him. Even the Joker is terrified of what thread he poses to his world, sacrificing an alliance with Lex Luthor over his willingness to consult the Batman Who Laughs for advice.

Since the Hell Arisen and Dark Nights: Death Metal storylines, The Batman Who Laughs formed an alliance with multiverse creator Perpetua in exchange for holding some dominion over Earth. Batman transferred his mind into a version of Batman with Doctor Manhattan's powers (Batmanhattan) and dubbed himself the Darkest Knight, forging an even greater threat.
