'Green Lantern' Leaves Australia

Any comic fan well-versed in DC Comics mythology knows that the power ring wielded by the Green Lantern is ineffective against the color yellow, but the big screen version of the character seems to have struck upon another weakness: one of coinage.

The Hollywood Reporter today reported that the big screen adaptation of "Green Lantern" set to star actor Ryan Reynolds as directed by "Casino Royale's" Martin Campbell from a script by comic and TV scribes Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim has hit a snag in filming thanks to the strength of the Australian dollar as compared to its U.S. counterpart. While the movie was set to begin filming next month, Warner Brothers announced via statement that the production would now wait until a more economically viable location could be found.

"After working closely with our partners at the NSW Film and Television Office (Screen NSW) and examining every scenario, we have decided to move the production of 'Green Lantern.' We are extremely grateful for the assistance we have received from the NSW Government, Fox Studios and the NSW filmmaking community," the statement to read.

THR cited sources believing "Green Lantern" may move to Mexico or Canada. In any event, the announcement marks a shift in trend of the past few years that saw the studio sending big budget features including Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns" and the upcoming Spike Jonez adaptation of "Where The Wild Things Are" down under to save on costs.

Where that leaves "Green Lantern" is unclear. Reynolds confirmed earlier this month that he would be moving forward with both the starring role as Hal Jordan and Wade Wilson in the proposed "Deadpool" movie from 20th Century Fox, with word circulating online that he was well-prepared for the former being able to cite the famed "Green Lantern Oath."
