DC Comics writer Jeremy Adams confirmed that he would love to bring characters created for Green Lantern: The Animated Series into the comics' canon.

Speaking exclusively with CBR, Adams discussed his upcoming run on Green Lantern with artist Xermánico (Flashpoint Beyond). The new ongoing series follows Hal Jordan as he returns to Earth in the aftermath of Dark Crisis to reconnect with his home and confront his nemesis, Sinestro. When asked if Adams was open to bringing Green Lantern: TAS characters Razor and Aya into DC Comics canon, the writer enthusiastically responded, "I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like to bring them into the books somewhere down the line."

Who Are Razor and Aya?

Green Lantern: The Animated Series aired on Cartoon Network for a single season from 2011 to 2013, with Razor and Aya serving as two of the CG-animated show's main characters. Both were original characters created for Green Lantern: TAS, with Razor (voiced by Jason Spisak) being a reformed Red Lantern and Aya (Grey DeLisle) an artificial intelligence created as an empathetic alternative to the Manhunters. Over the 26-episode season, Razor and Aya developed complicated feelings for one another. However, the series ended with Aya seemingly being wiped from existence and Razor searching the galaxy for her.

Although not in the comics, Razor did return in the nineteenth and twentieth episodes of Young Justice: Phantoms, with Young Justice co-showrunner Greg Weisman confirming the events of TAS were adjacent to the other beloved DC animated series. The episodes continued several plot threads from Green Lantern: TAS, including Razer eschewing his red power ring for a blue one -- ultimately becoming a Red Lantern/Blue Lantern hybrid -- and searching for Aya. Spisak reprised his voice role as Razor in the two episodes, which were well-received by the DC fandom.

What's Next for the Green Lanterns in Television?

Greg Berlanti, who co-created the Arrowverse on The CW, was previously in development on a live-action Green Lantern series, which would have streamed on HBO Max. However, the project was scrapped in favor of a True Detective-style show, which will be part of James Gunn and Peter Safran's forthcoming DC Universe. Titled Lanterns, the series will feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart as Green Lanterns solving a terrestrial-based mystery. "We find this ancient horror on Earth, and these guys are basically supercops on 'Precinct Earth,'" said Gunn and Safran when the project was announced in January 2023.

Green Lantern #1 is due out on May 9.
