HBO Max's upcoming Green Lantern television series has just lost two Emerald Gladiators, as Alan Scott and Guy Gardner actors Jeremy Irvine and Finn Wittrock are no longer attached to the project.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the actors, who were cast in the spring of last year, are not signed onto Green Lantern anymore, though Berlanti Productions, which is producing the series, is still "eager" to work with the actors if the show's latest iteration moves forward. As part of the revamp, the show will now focus on Green Lantern John Stewart, with ex-showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith also leaving following his completion of the scripts for the show's eight-episode first season. Additionally, Green Lantern is now being developed at much slower pace under the eyes of HBO programming chief Casey Bloys and Warner Bros. executive Channing Dungey.

HBO Max's Green Lantern Is Undergoing a Revamp

Prior to this news, it had been reported over the summer that Green Lantern was still being worked on despite the cancellation of fellow future DC Comics-centric Berlanti Productions show Strange Adventures due to the merging of Warner Bros. and Discovery. A later report reiterated this by confirming that both Green Lantern and another DC-based project, The Penguin, were still "going forward" at HBO Max despite cuts made to the streaming service.

In regard to his character of Guy Gardner, Wittrock had previously delved into Guy last year, saying that he is a "polarizing figure," but also has "a heart of gold." Wittrock went on to note, "[Guy] takes on a lot of this show. He's a pretty big part of it. I think it's an interesting way in [to the story]. It's not the conventional way in, but I think people might see a side of him they didn't know was there."

Wittrock wasn't the only actor in Green Lantern at the time to talk about his character. Irvine also spoke about the worries he had over wearing a costume as Alan Scott, jokingly commenting, "I haven't [tried on my costume] yet. As far as I know, there's not a firm start date yet. But when they offered me the role, they did say it was going to be about two or three months to make the outfit. Now they're gonna have to fit my paunch into it." It was also revealed by character breakdowns fleshing Alan and Guy out that the show would introduce a new Green Lantern named Bree Jarta.

Green Lantern currently does not have a premiere date for HBO Max.
