This is "Working for a While," a feature that spotlights the lesser-known jobs that our favorite superheroes have had over the years (mostly in their secret identities, but sometimes I'll feature examples of jobs superheroes have had in their costumed identities, as well).

Today, we look at Hal Jordan's short-lived stint as a trucker.

Last time around, I talked about Hal's career as a traveling toy salesman.

That job ended when Hal went on the road with Hal Jordan and the Guardian of the Universe best known as the "Old-Timer." Here they are just sort of bumming around the country in Green Lantern #79 (by Denny O'Neil, Neal Adams and Dan Adkins)...

They don't really explain what Hal and the gang used for money on the road, but in my head canon, they just mugged tourists as they traveled through the country.

Eventually, Hal got back together with his old girlfriend, Carol Ferris, and he lived in her fancy house with her (her father owned a major aircraft company).

In Green Lantern #99 (by Denny O'Neil, Mike Grell and Vince Colletta), Carol gets a delivery of a truck...

She bought it for Hal to start a business as a trucker...

In the next issue (with Alex Saviuk taking over on pencil duties), Hal notes that this is a lot easier than having his girlfriend as his boss (in case you're wondering who Hal's little alien buddy is, that's Itty. I wrote about him a while back).

That was how it went. Hal would go off trucking, hear a problem over the radio, turn into Green Lantern and solve it...

Finally, though, in Green Lantern #120 (by Denny O'Neil, Don Heck and John Celardo), a tidal wave hits where Hal's truck was...

And it was totaled in the next issue (inks by Frank McLaughlin)...

Luckily, despite them having broken up in the time between her buying the truck and now, Carol Ferris offers Hal a job and he accepts...

Okay, folks, I'm sure you have plenty of suggestions for this feature, so let me have 'em at brianc@cbr.com!
