10 10. Also Known As

Saint Walker

Most fans probably know him best as Saint Walker, but he, like many other heores out there, goes by another name as well.

Before he picked up his famous Blue Lantern Ring, he was known as Bro'Dee Walker. And it's a name he still acknowledges to this day. And of course, given his status, some people just know him as Blue Lantern. And yes, that does apply when talking directly to him.

9 9. Before the Ring

Saint Walker had a rich life before he ever picked up the ring that made him so famous. His home planet is Astonia, located within Sector 1 of all places. On Astonia, he was fairly well known, being that he was a priest. It actually sort of makes sense, right? Especially when one considers his calm and soothing demeanor.

Saint Walker is married to the lovely Quanta. Together they had two children, a boy and a girl, named Jatt and Peesh. Saint Walker did lose his entire family at a later date – but it never hampered his ability to have faith.

8 8. Saint Walker Saved His Home Planet

Astonia's sun was failing – and so rapidly that Saint Walker's people took to rioting. Even at it's worst though, Saint Walker refused to give up hope. Even when his wife and children passed on did he continue to hope.

His undying hope is what made him worthy of the Blue Lantern Ring. His hope that all would be well summoned the ring – and thus saved the sun and his home planet. So in a way, things came full circle for this hero.

7 7. Blue Lantern

Saint Walker was the first of the new Blue Lantern Corps. The Blue Lantern doesn't act quite like the more expected Green Lantern Ring. It is more powerful when in the presence of Green Lantern Rings and vice versa. That is because hope and willpower are intricately and irreversibly linked.

Alone, the Blue Lanterns can only grant the most basic of abilities. It can grant flight, protection from the elements (and space), and some very basic constructs. When with a Green Lantern, a Blue Lantern's abilities will seem limitless. The difference between these two states is striking.

6 6. A Specialty in Healing

One of the abilities that make Blue Lanterns so amazing is their ability to mend others – body and soul. They can enhance the hope building in others. And they can heal as well. Healing, in particular, seems to be a gift that Saint Walker is especially talented at.

During some of the most major events that the Blue Lanterns have been involved in, you'll likely see Saint Walker healing damaged characters from significant damage. That includes heroes like Hal Jordan, mind you.

5 5. First Appeared in Final Crisis

Saint Walker – and the Blue Lanterns in general, first made their appearance during the Final Crisis plot arc. This is the plot that eventually led to Blackest Night, and later, Brightest Day. It's arguably one of the most famous Green Lantern plots, one that had far-reaching ramifications. Like the creation of the Blue Lantern Corps.

Actually, the first time Hal and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps met Saint Walker was rather iconic. And well suited for their personalities. The Green Lantern Corps had just battled against Sinestro, and Hal needed healing. Something which Saint Walker was more than happy to do.

4 4. Saint Walker & Mogo

There have been a few different variations of Saint Walker. The comic book version and the animated TV show are two such examples. In both. Saint Walker and Mogo seem to have a true friendship. This is especially so in the Green Lantern animated series.

Here Saint Walker's origin story was altered – so much so that he actually came onto his ring while spending his time on Mogo. Here he had been waiting for and hoping for answers. Answers which he got. These two friends met up again later, where they joined in battle together. With Saint Walker enhancing Mogo's abilities.

3 3. Eased the Hunger

We mentioned above that Blue Lanterns have the ability to heal. But sometimes the healing is less physical and more inherent to the character. For example, one of the more famous and amazing examples of this would be the time that Saint Walker erased Larfleeze's hunger.

Larfleeze was a wielder of an Orange Ring. The embodiment of greed. Larfleeze's greed – which was enhanced because of the ring – caused him to desire all of the rings around him. Carol and Sinestro (yes, you read that right) approached Saint Walker for his help.

This action ended up being vital to winning the war and caused an interesting set of events at the same time.

2 2. The First

Saint Walker was the first ever to pick up the Blue Lantern Ring. The ring of hope was created by Ganthet and Sayd. They intentionally branched off from the Green Lantern Corps because they knew that they needed something new to win the impending war in Blackest Night. They knew they needed hope.

It was Saint Walker who was the first to express the level of hope required to be worthy. And thus, he was the one who forged ahead. Creating the reputation and expectations of his new corps. And he did a wonderful job of it.

1 1. Going Beyond

Being the first Blue Lantern has given Saint Walker some unique abilities. Or maybe it is his hope, or the amount of time he has spent with the ring. It is hard to say.

What we do know is that Saint Walker can do more with his ring than others, even without the presence of a Green Lantern. He can go beyond the basics we already discussed, creating his own constructs, healing, and many other things. He's still nowhere near as strong as he is when nearby a Green Lantern. But it's certainly something.
