Green Lantern: Earth One Preview Teases the Power of the Ring

The Green Lantern: Earth One graphic novel from Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman and Jordan Boyd is still months away, but Hardman today revealed three preview pages from the upcoming Green Lantern reimagining book that shows the destructive power of the ring.

Green Lantern: Earth One takes a new approach to Hal Jordan. Once a pilot, Hal’s backstory has been revised so that he’s an asteroid prospector who discovers one of the Green Lantern Corps rings on duty. The newly revealed art shows a man rummaging through a backpack, only to discover a glowing green lantern and a ring. The man places the ring on his middle finger and the spaceship he’s on gets blown to smithereens.

There are a few key things to note, like the fact that the man who emerges from the spaceship clutching the ring on the last page does not appear to be the same man who was rummaging through the backpack — it looks as though Hal was the pilot (seen on the first page). Second, it’s worth noting that the Green Lantern Corps rings in Green Lantern: Earth One don’t work like the old rings. They’re not honor-bound; anyone can use them, like a tool. Apparently, they can be used poorly.

Green Lantern: Earth One Vol. 1 will be available for purchase on March 20, 2018.
