It’s always incredible seeing our favorite superheroes don new costumes, take on new names, or access new abilities. When our favorite Green Lanterns are accepted into different Corps, we get to see these all happen at once. We’ve seen the biggest members of the Justice League get to harness a Lantern ring, but what happens when an experienced ringslinger gets to change colors for some time? Luckily, the defenders of Sector 2814 have collectively joined the entire spectrum (the shortest being Hal taking the orange battery for a very limited amount of time), and we’ve been at the edge of our seats every time.

10 John Stewart Ultraviolet

The most recent submission of all on this list, the Ultraviolet corps was introduced in the 4th issue of the most recent Justice League run. Part of the invisible spectrum of light, the Ultraviolet Corps is powered by Umbrax. Umbrax is a primordial force created from the Source Wall as an entity acting at the center of the Invisible Spectrum. John was exposed to this Corps by Sinestro, and he unwillingly became a member. The ring is powered by the wearers negative thoughts, which were used to create invisible constructs.

9 Hal Jordan Sinestro Corps (Injustice)

This is the only submission on the list that doesn’t take place in the main DCU, but it’s way too cool to ignore. Hal Jordan, an ally of the evil Superman in this universe, is stripped of his Green Lantern ring by the Guardians of the Universe when they deem him unworthy to be a member of the corps any longer. As Carol, Hal’s girlfriend, is falling to her death, Sinestro offers Hal a yellow ring, and he accepts it to save Carol. Hal becomes a Sinestro Corps member alongside the namesake and Superman for a bit. After the events of Injustice: Gods Among Us, Hal earns his way back into the Green Lantern Corps.

8 Kyle Rayner Blue Lantern

Kyle Rayner is the fourth human to wield a Green Lantern ring, and also one of the most popular among fans. During the event of the War of The Green Lanterns, former Guardian Krona infected the Green Lantern Battery, causing the human Lanterns to put on different rings. Kyle chose Blue, as he believes he embodied hope when Ganthet chose him to continue the legacy of the Green Lantern Corps. He uses his powers to peacefully subdue the infected Green Lanterns, and is the calm voice of reason throughout the story.

7 John Stewart Star Sapphire

The Star Sapphires are pretty much the Amazons of the universe. The violet lanterns consist of only females, including Hal’s on-off love interest Carol Ferris, harnessing the power of love. However, during the Godhead event, John Stewart was accepted into the Star Sapphire Corps. John actually has a really bad history with the sapphires. Fatality was a member of the corps and was brainwashed into loving John, so being offered a ring now was met with much reluctance. He is the first male deemed worthy of the corps, and he used the tether ability to transport himself to what he loved most: the Green Lantern Corps.

6 John Stewart Indigo Tribe

During the events of the War of the Green Lanterns, John Stewart took the ring of the Indigo-1, the leader of the Indigo Tribe. John actually has the most difficulty mastering the ring, as the Indigo ring can harness the powers of the emotional spectrum one at a time, meaning he can take on the powers of other Corps. He also learned the unique ability of teleportation throughout the events of the arc. With an infected Mogo, the planet-sized Green Lantern, recruiting tainted members of the corps, John has to make the ultimate decision of the story. He harnesses the power of the Black Lantern Corps and kills Mogo.

5 Guy Gardner Futures End

Futures End was a series that told stories of possible futures regarding the main DCU. In the Red Lanterns special, Guy Gardner wielded a blue lantern ring, which is unusual for the normally hot-headed character. Bleez and he scouted the universe to purify every Red Lantern and bring an end to the Red Lantern Corps. Soon all they had left to fight was Rankorr, who had become extremely powerful. Guy used his Blue Lantern powers to restore both Bleez and Rankorr to their natural forms, and the issue ends on a positive note.

4 Hal Jordan Black Lantern

Hal Jordan using a Black Lantern ring

During the events of Wrath of the First Lantern, Hal Jordan found himself stuck in Black Hand’s ring. With Simon Baz and Sinestro escaping, Hal realized the only way he was going to get out was by using another ring. Hal jumped off a cliff, killing himself in the process, and was accepted into the Black Lantern Corps. This led to an incredible splash page of Hal as the leader of the Black Lanterns, storming Volthoom. He was even able to raise Nekron, the Black entity, and control him to fight against Volthoom. After defeating the villain, Hal was once again accepted into the Green Lantern Corps.

3 Hal Jordan Sinestro Corps

As Parallax, Hal slaughtered almost the entire Green Lantern Corps and murdered countless others during the Zero Hour event. However, redemption came for Hal when he sacrificed himself to reignite the sun, and eventually returned from the dead. During the War of the Green Lanterns Arc, Hal chose a yellow ring given his experience with fear as the former host of Parallax. It’s an important decision for more reasons than one. Not only did Sinestro train Hal when he was a rookie GL, but Hal was also the one to arrest him in the name of the corps, and despite being sworn enemies, the two will always have an underlying possibility of them being friends.

2 Guy Gardner Red Lantern

When the Red Lanterns we’re first introduced in Green Lantern #25, it was hard to imagine any hero joining their ranks. Now, the team has former members such as Mera, Supergirl, and Guy Gardner. Enraged by Kyle’s “death,” Guy attracts the Red Lantern Ring and joins the corps. He is one of the only Red Lanterns capable of creating hard light constructs and can use both his green and red rings together in battle. At Hal’s request, Guy went undercover as a mole into the corps, and ended up becoming the leader of the Red Lanterns. Guy eventually returned to the Green Lantern Corps and has remained a member since.

1 Kyle Rayner White Lantern

If there’s anything Kyle Rayner is known for, it’s probably for his time as the White Lantern. Kyle became the most powerful lantern when he finally channeled the power of the entire Emotional Spectrum. This allowed Kyle to perform amazing feats throughout his time as the embodiment of life; including surviving the Source Wall, taking on the New Gods, and bringing things back to life. Until his ring was split by Doctor Manhattan, Kyle was one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
