According to RED CEO Jim Jannard (via Bleeding Cool), the company's EPIC digital camera impressed director of photography John Schwartzman. "'This is the best looking footage I have ever shot... these are the best images I have ever seen!' was his comment," writes Jannard. "I asked him if this was just his enthusiasm spilling out or if this was actually the case (pretty big statement). He thought for a few moments and said 'No, really... this is the best footage I have ever seen from any camera. Ever.' The camera is being used on the production in lieu of a traditional film camera.

As our pals at Spinoff Online reported yesterday, Jeff Lemire's "Essex County: Tales from the Farm" will make its way to the big screen as "Super Zero," with visual effects guru John Dykstra making his directorial debut. The story centers on a "recently orphaned 10-year-old boy named Lester who goes to live on his uncle's farm. As their relationship becomes increasingly strained, Lester befriends the town's hulking gas-station owner, a former professional hockey player, and they escape into a fantasy world of superheroes, alien invaders and old-fashioned pond hockey."

Reeler Holden wonders if the opening weekend box office figure for "X-Men: First Class" will be enough to generate a sequel. One thing you can be sure of is that there will always be another "X-Men" movie. It's an important franchise to Fox and the hope of another $100 million opening weekend is too good to resist. I think the studio came away from this past weekend believing all "X-Men" films require Wolverine (and actor Hugh Jackman) in a prominent role, which could jeopardize future installments of the "First Class" premise. That said, I say continuity be damned; make a "Second Class" flick with Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Thunderbird, and Cyclops saving the "First Class" from a mutant island. I'll pay real money to see that movie! Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of "X-Men 4: The Not-So-Last Stand."
