Get ready for Green Arrow and the Canaries.
As announced by star Katherine McNamara, filming on the Arrow spinoff's backdoor pilot has officially begun. "So today's pretty special," she said in a video she posted to Twitter. "It is the first day of shooting on the backdoor pilot, as it were, of Green Arrow and the Canaries. It's really exciting! I really don't know what's in store, but whatever it is, it's going to be pretty badass. So I cannot wait to share it with all of you. Here we go."
Just last week, Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim shared a poster for the upcoming female-centric Arrow spinoff. The artwork spotlighted the new Green Arrow Mia Smoak (McNamara), as well as two Canaries: Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).
The spinoff will springboard off a backdoor pilot in Arrow's eighth and final season and will follow McNamara's Mia as she takes on the mantle of the Green Arrow with the help of the Canaries. The backdoor pilot is written by Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama.
Airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary, Katie Cassidy as Black Siren, Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke and Ben Lewis as William Clayton-Queen.
