Since The CW began airing Arrow in 2012, one of the more common complaints has been that Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen doesn't sport the goatee that the Emerald Archer is known for in the comics. In the opening moments of the pilot, he sported a raggedy facial mane that was later revealed to be fake, but since then, he's had five-o'-clock shadow at best. For Season 7, though, Amell announced that he will "debut the goatee," however it might not stick around long-term.
“Just because you’ve been polite, and just because everyone has been so nice to me today, I can break some news for you and let you know that in Season Seven I am going to debut the goatee,” Amell said at Motor City Comic Con. “I can’t promise that I’m going to keep [the goatee] forever. "I can definitely promise that I’m not going to wear the stupid hat.”
The recently concluded sixth season of Arrow saw Oliver go to jail as part of a deal to keep the rest of Team Arrow out of prison. Having just revealed himself to the world as the Green Arrow shortly before being sent away, the question remains: If and when Oliver gets out of jail and suits up again, what will his costume look like? The goatee may be a way around it, along with fulfilling a promise that Amell made years prior about sporting the facial hair before the series' eventual end. Considering the recent art of Arrowverse characters standing together, it seems that he'll have it at least up until the yearly crossover.
Premiering Monday nights on The CW for Season 7, Arrow stars Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Colt0n Haynes, Echo Kellum, Rick Gonzalez, Juliana Harkavy and Katie Cassidy.
