The penultimate episode of Arrow will serve as a backdoor pilot for Green Arrow & the Canaries, a planned Arrowverse spinoff series that has Mia Queen inherit her father's mantle as the new Green Arrow. The young superhero quickly finds herself defending Star City alongside Black Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake from a new Deathstroke, introduced earlier in Arrow's final season.

The CW has released a promo for the episode, aptly titled "Green Arrow & the Canaries," featuring Mia coming to terms with Oliver Queen's apparent death in "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Laurel encourages her to continue her father's superhero legacy, with Mia joined by the Canaries in a high-flying brawl showcasing their combat skills.

Announced this past September, principal photography on the backdoor pilot for the spinoff began in October. The pilot was written by Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz, Arrowverse executive producer Marc Guggenheim and writers Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama.

Brought to the present-day during Arrow's final season, Mia initially had a strained relationship with Oliver after growing up without him in her life. As the two prepared for the coming Crisis, they reconciled as Oliver began to mentor his daughter before his own untimely death.
