Gravity Trailer Warns ‘Don’t Let Go’

It’s been years since Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity was announced, and now it’s only months away from being released. After a rotating cast of actors attached themselves to the project, it was ultimately Sandra Bullock and George Clooney who took the dive on the boundary-pushing project.

The first trailer released for the film is definitely a tease, as it focuses on the terror of being trapped in space and doesn’t offer much in the way of plot. Or maybe this is all the plot Gravity has to go on: an accident destroys Bullock and Clooney’s characters’ spaceship and leaves them stranded in outer space.

Regardless, it’s the visual effects that are really stunning here. We’ve heard rumors that Cuaron employed some truly impressive technology to create some of the space sequences seen in the trailer, and the end result seems to prove it. The first-person perspective is an intriguing way to get audiences in on the action, but it’s the final shot of Bullock alone in space that gives us the chills.

“[They’re] absolutely pushing a new boundary in filmmaking, completely mindblowing. And the way they’re making that movie will, I think, forever change certain types of productions,” Guillermo del Toro gushed of Gravity to MTV News in 2011. “[James Cameron] said, well you know, look, you’re about five years into the future. When Jim said that it’s too early to try anything that crazy, they did it.”

Cuaron both directed and co-wrote Gravity, which is due in theaters on Oct. 4.
