Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch released a video detailing some of his interactions with Disney regarding censorship of the show.

On Twitter, Hirsch shared a video, with voice acting, of some of his email exchanges with Standards and Practices at Disney. In the emails, S&P asks Hirsch for such changes as removing "poopface," "Lucifer" and a gag in which a basketball player throws a chimp through a hoop. Some requests are abandoned after Hirsch's responses, while S&P does not budge on others. Later, Hirsch tweeted other interactions with S&P, including one in which the group attempted to censor a limerick opening with "there once was a man from Kentucky."

This is not the first time Hirsch has detailed some of the issues he ran into with Disney asking for changes with which he did not agree. In 2020, Hirsch explained in an interview with CBR that Disney asked him to change Grunkle Stan's hat due to potential legal action from the Shriners. The hat originally featured a yellow crescent.

Gravity Falls ran on Disney Channel and Disney XD from 2012 until 2016. The show, which consisted of two seasons and forty episodes, followed Dipper and Mabel Pines as they go to Gravity Falls, Oregon, to spend the summer with their Stanley Pines/Grunkle Stan at the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap dedicated to the spooky and mysterious. However, Dipper and Mabel soon discover that there are actual paranormal things going on in the town and eventually find themselves up against an interdimensional being known as Bill Cipher. Gravity Falls won a number of high-profile awards, including two Emmys, and is often considered one of the best animated series ever.

Outside of Gravity Falls, Hirsch is known for his work on such projects as The Owl House, where he voiced King and several other characters. He's also had roles on Amphibia, Phineas and Ferb and Inside Job.

Gravity Falls stars Jason Ritter, Kristen Schaal, Alex Hirsch and Linda Cardellini. Both seasons of the show are available now through Disney+.
