Sony is looking at its own stable of properties for a film franchise on the level of Universal's wildly popular Fast and the Furious. TheWrap reports the studio plans to transform the long-running racing-game series Gran Turismo into a big-screen adventure.

Considering the past two Fast and Furious films have earned a combined worldwide gross of $1.338 billion, it's no surprise other studios want in on the action. For instance, Electronic Arts and DreamWorks are already developing  Need for Speed for film.

Exclusive to Playstation systems going back to its 1997 debut, the Gran Turismo games are the most successful in Sony's vast library. The latest installment in the series, Gran Turismo 6, is scheduled to debut Nov. 28.
