We already knew Jerome will return to "Gotham" in January, but it appears the might-be Joker has another trick up his sleeve. Or, rather, on his face.

Actor Cameron Monaghan recently revealed closeup photos that suggest his character may draw inspiration from DC Comics' New 52, where in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's "Batman" run The Joker has his face cut off by the Dollmaker. The Clown Prince of Crime later wore his own face like a mask.

A version of the Dollmaker, named Dr. Francis Dulmacher, has appeared on "Gotham," so it's certainly possible the character will return to play a role in Jerome's apparent transformation.

Jerome was last seen early in the second season of the Fox drama, where he was stabbed, and presumably killed, by Theo Galavan. His death inspired several copycats in Gotham City, and even a nightclub and a band.

Now on winter hiatus, "Gotham" stars Ben McKenzie as Detective Jim Gordon,  David Mazouz as young Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as young Selina Kyle, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Sean Pertwee as Aflred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma, Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins and Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney. The drama airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
