Young Bruce Wayne is certainly growing up in Fox’s "Gotham," but many viewers are still asking: How long will it be before he suits up as Batman? Well, he's getting close -- but there's still a long way to go.

Executive producer Ken Woodruff told Entertainment Weekl that Master Wayne is getting closer to slipping into the cowl and cape, but says he definitely won't get there in the upcoming third season.

“I wouldn’t expect Bruce to suit up in season 3,” the producer explained, “but he’ll definitely start acquiring some necessary skills for becoming the Caped Crusader.”

Although the age at which Wayne becomes Batman is never explicitly stated in the comics, Woodruff suggests that he is getting close because Gotham star David Mazouz is only 15. “We’re not quite getting to the point of Batman,” he added, intimating that the season is going to focus on the “different sides of Bruce Wayne,” and “lay the foundation of all those Batman things.”

Woodruff also hinted at the implications of Bruce’s deepening relationship with the future Catwoman. “Near the end of last season, he spent time on the street with Selina Kyle,” he explained, “We didn’t show a lot of that, but this year we’re going to show what the gains from that experience were—learning to pick locks, break into things, be silent like a bat.”

These revelations suggest that we may see the emergence of the World's Greatest Detective's toolmaking acumen.  This begs the question of whether we’ll see the debut of an iconic Batman accessory in the third season. Bruce will need somewhere to store the lock picks and various tools he needs to get in and out of, and around places. Could a proto-utility belt be in the works?
