The next season of Gotham doesn't kick off until Sept. 21, but in the meantime fans of Fox's Batman prequel television show can catch a glimpse at a different kind of Gotham -- an artist's rendition of what the series would have looked like had it been developed in the style of Batman: The Animated Series.

The project comes courtesy of artist Rick Celis, who has created numerous illustrations showcasing his rendition of Gotham: The Animated Series. With each illustration, Celis takes a prominent character from Gotham and reimagines them in the style of the '90s cartoon.

Some of the Gotham characters Celis has drawn include Ben Mackenzie's Jim Gordon, Donal Logue's Harvey Bullock and Robin Taylor's Oswald Cobblepot, among others. Here are just a few examples from Celis' expansive Gotham: The Animated Series collection.

While Celis has already drawn a considerable portion of the Gotham cast, he's still taking suggestions on who should get the Bruce Timm treatment next.

Celis' twitter also features plenty of other characters both within and without the DC universe, all drawn in the classic style. The artist also takes commissions on his DeviantArt page if Gotham isn't your cup of tea.

Starring Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Gotham season four will premiere on the Fox network on Thursday, September 21.
