Solomon Grundy made his long-awaited debut Thursday on Gotham in the episode "The Blade's Path," which saw longtime henchman Butch Gilzean -- or Cyrus Gold, if you prefer -- emerge transformed from the murky waters of Slaughter Swamp. If you missed his arrival, Fox has now released the scene.

Reanimated by his exposure to the swamp, a chalky-white Butch (played Drew Powell) has enhanced strength and no knowledge of who he is. A nursery rhyme playing on a phonograph gives him his new name: Solomon Grundy.

After beating up a few people, Grundy wanders back to Gotham City, where he runs into a freshly thawed Riddler (Cory Michael Smith). The two team up to rediscover who they are, and Nygma asks Grundy to fight for him.

Debuting in 1944 in All-American Comics #1, Solomon Grundy was initially an enemy of the Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott. The monster has since gone on to become a recurring foe of both Batman and Superman, and rose to prominence on the animated Challenge of the SuperFriends.

Airing Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox, Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Cameron Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth.
