A new preview for Gotham's final season heralds the arrival of Bane, and "the End," in what's subtitled "Legend of the Dark Knight."

While the promo focuses on the end of Gotham, reminding viewers the city fell into the hands of criminals at the end of Season 4, it also showcases Bruce Wayne's need to rise up as a Dark Knight.

The new footage suggests Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) will come head to head with Bane, and reveals new looks for Jeremiah and his assistant Ecco. The most tantalizing tease is a quick shot of Selina Kyle's cat-like eyes. The last we saw, she had been shot in the stomach by Jeremiah and taken away in an ambulance with Alfred in tow.

Just before the promo ends, it includes with a fight scene between Bruce and a masked opponent, although the young vigilante is still wearing his typical leather jacket, with no sign of a bat-like mask. It concludes with a laughing Jeremiah, which raises the question of whether he will be officially dubbed the Joker at some point in the season.

Regarding where the final season is headed, showrunner John Stephens recently explained, “We pick up at the top of Season 5, at the conclusion of No Man’s Land, Day 365,” Stephens said. “Then, we cycle backwards to day 87, three months into No Man’s Land, where Jim has created his green zone and wants his reunification. We’re catching up, and for the first nine episodes, we’re always catching up to that first scene we see.”

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth. It is scheduled to return on Fox for its fifth and final season on Jan. 3, 2019.
