In Gotham, even the shadows pose a threat. A new, CBR-exclusive teaser for the upcoming fifth and final season reveals a quick glimpse of the GCPD's section of No Man's Land during Day 87.

"Something's out there," one cop tells his partner in the teaser. "See? The shadow moves!" At that, the other cop laughed. "It's just a shadow, man," he replied. Terrified, the first cop never dropped his gaze from the shadow, which flitted across the wall across the courtyard. "No, something's out there," he insisted.

The end of last season saw the apparent demise of some regular characters, even as the city was cut off from the outside world thanks to Jeremiah and Ra's al Ghul. These events evoke DC's 1999 storyline "No Man's Land," where Gotham was abandoned by the U.S. government in the aftermath of a severe earthquake.

Regarding where the final season is headed, showrunner John Stephens recently explained, “We pick up at the top of Season 5, at the conclusion of No Man’s Land, Day 365,” Stephens said. “Then, we cycle backwards to day 87, three months into No Man’s Land, where Jim has created his green zone and wants his reunification. We’re catching up, and for the first nine episodes, we’re always catching up to that first scene we see.”

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth. It is scheduled to return on Fox for its fifth and final season on Jan. 3, 2019.
