"Gotham" Season 2 Casts Female Firefly

"Those Who Kill" star Michelle Veintimilla has signed on to play Bridgit Pike, a firestarter and vengeful supervillain who goes by Firefly, in two episodes of "Gotham's" second season this fall.

According to TV Line's official character description, this version of Firefly is "enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists... Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit's firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her."

Veintimilla's Firefly will appear in episodes five and six. The actress is best known for her role as a younger version of Chita Rivera's character in Broadway's "The Visit."

In the comics, there are two versions of Firefly: Garfield Lynns, who first appeared in France Herron and Dick Sprang's "Detective Comics" #184, and Ted Carson, who debuted in Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff's "Batman" #126. Both versions are notably male and primarily use pyrotechnics and explosives as weapons.

Starring Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue and David Mazouz, "Gotham" returns to Fox on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8 pm EST.
