Dick Grayson (aka Nightwing) and Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) have a heart-to-heart in an official cinematic from the upcoming DC video game Gotham Knights.

The cutscene opens on Dick and Barbara pumping iron, with Dick having apparently initiated the workout session as a way to avoid talking about his complicated feelings following the death of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Barbara reminds Dick of their shared history before starting to leave, which finally prompts Dick to tell her what's been bothering him. This culminates in a heartfelt moment in which the ex-lovers share a hug.

Babs and Dick will always have each other's backs.

Protecting Gotham City is no easy feat, and the members of the Batman Family are not immune to the pressure that comes with donning the cowl. But when Dick Grayson grapples with taking on Bruce's legacy, Barbara Gordon is there to support her fellow Knight.

Not to be confused with the upcoming CW television series of the same name, Gotham Knights is slated to release for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The game is developed by WB Games Montréal, which previously developed 2013's Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to developer Rocksteady's main Batman: Arkham trilogy of games.

The Bat-Family Takes Center Stage in Gotham Knights

Set outside the Arkhamverse, Gotham Knights, as previously mentioned, takes place in the aftermath of Batman's death. In the Dark Knight's absence, his various protégés are left to defend Gotham City. The game features four playable protagonists, including the aforementioned Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, as well as Jason Todd/Red Hood and Tim Drake/Robin.

Notably, Nightwing and Batgirl's relationship won't be the only one explored in Gotham Knights. After all, while Dick and Barbara share a romantic history, Barbara and Jason have experienced similar trauma at the hands of Batman's arch-nemesis, the Joker.

"Barbara and Jason's relationship is probably one of the ones I'm most excited for people to see," Ceri Young, the game's lead writer, recently said. "They have both been through some extremely traumatic situations, and as such, we felt that they would really have a deep understanding of how it feels to deal with and recover from that -- in a way that Tim and Dick, while they're sympathetic, can't grasp. So, you'll see moments where Barbara and Jason recognize that in one another, and step in to help each other."
