In the DC vault, one of Nightwing's biggest traits is his Escrima sticks, which fans of the comics and various Batman cartoons lapped up for years. They were even more hyped when the weapon was brought over into the Batman: Arkham video games, with Nightwing helping the Dark Knight and reminding everyone, no matter the medium, Dick Grayson would always be loyal to Bruce Wayne.

Interestingly, following teasers for the upcoming game Gotham Knights, many wondered how Nightwing would fare in battle and what weapons he'd be using in lieu of the Caped Crusader's death. Finally, in a gameplay trailer featuring over 13 minutes of footage, it's been revealed he will be deploying his iconic sticks once more. However, this time, his arsenal borrows from the Bat's most chilling villain: Mr. Freeze.

The video showed how the Court of Owls was rising up in Gotham City, seeking to take over with both Bruce and Jim Gordon gone. In the segment showcasing Nightwing's stealth as he entered a mansion, he ended up fighting the Owls' agents. This sequence, however, confirmed he has a new feature for users to toy with, called the "elemental shockwave ability."

Nightwing is using Freeze's moves in Gotham Knights

Around the 9:05 mark, as Nightwing battles fiends, he uses "cryo-status" attacks where his sticks can freeze the landscape and enemies. He's seen knocking them out in close quarters, using the ice blasts for extra effect and to add weight to his blows. At first, Mortal Kombat fans may liken it to Sub-Zero, but this is actually similar to major Batman enemy Mr. Freeze.

What makes this more interesting is that earlier teasers for the game showed Freeze over chilled parts of Gotham, but seeing as this game isn't connected to the Arkhamverse, it could be that Freeze is reformed and an ally. He might have helped upgrade Dick's gear, or it could be the vigilantes have been using tools Bruce left behind in their new base, the Belfry, after taking them from his rogues.

Either way, fans are intrigued to see if Dick will end up using these cryo-moves against Freeze should they fight, as well as what Freeze's backstory is in this universe. If they are enemies, he would be almost certainly be infuriated by seeing Dick appropriating his tech, so only time will tell if he's a benevolent Victor Fries or the terrorist who hated Gotham after he couldn't cure his beloved Nora.

Additionally, excitement is growing to see what else Dick can do with his ice-moves and what other elemental tech Nightwing has in his arsenal. It's easy to see him incorporating something as simple as flamethrowers, given he's diversifying his tools. Ultimately, all these components make Dick more dynamic and harder to beat in the field.
