What Is Gotham Knights?

Gotham Knights premiered on The CW on March 14 and follows the exploits of Bruce Wayne's family, friends, and enemies in the wake of the DC icon's demise. The series features Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Wayne's adopted son, who forms an unlikely alliance with Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara's Harper and Cullen Row. Gotham Knights also stars Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Doe, the alleged daughter of famed supervillain, the Joker, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, better known as Robin, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Supernatural fan-favorite Misha Collins as Harvey Dent.

Collins previously explained his approach to the character under Gotham Knights' somber circumstances. "The death of Batman, my best friend, was the filter I applied for the first half of the first season," Collins said. "Batman helped the District Attorney solve crimes, but Bruce Wayne was my good friend, and Turner was like my surrogate nephew. To find out that Batman [had] died [and] was also Bruce Wayne -- my character discovers those things [when] he discovers the body. There's also this layer of betrayal that my best friend didn’t tell me he was the biggest hero in the world."

Ahead of the series premiere, Collins was asked if there had been any attempt to bring any of his former Supernatural co-stars onto Gotham Knights. Collins revealed, "We tried to work it out to have Jensen [Ackles] play Batman on the show." He continued, "It was all kind of teed up, but unfortunately, Jensen was on another show at the time, and coordinating between two series is challenging. So it didn't ultimately end up working out, but we tried."

Early reviews for Gotham Knights were largely moderate to negative, including descriptions of the series as a "formulaic CW teen drama... [that] fails to capitalize on its potential." In spite of this, the show has maintained a steady viewership since its debut. As of March 26, it was reported that the series had experienced a 146 percent increase since the premiere, meaning Gotham Knights is a ratings hit.
