A recent rating reveal in Taiwan for upcoming Warner Bros. Games' Gotham Knights suggests some of what players can expect from the DC adventure.

Taiwan revealed its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S ratings, listing them as PG-15. Twisted Voxel pointed out the lack of mention for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, questioning whether this meant the game would only release on next-gen consoles now despite the official website saying otherwise, or if the rating means the beta test will only run on PS5 and Xbox Series. The rating comes as no surprise, given the dark theme of the story and the inherent violence to be expected in a Batman Family crime-fighting game.

Gotham Knights is a fully open-world co-op online action-adventure taking place after Batman's death. With the Dark Knight's demise, it is up to the Batman Family to clear Gotham's streets of a new criminal underworld. "It is one open-world city, right from the start. And no, there's no level gating whatsoever," creative director Patrick Redding explained when discussing Gotham Knights in December 2020. "It's really that, when you encounter open-world crime activities (and other activities that involve the AI), you're going to see a range, right? You might see guys that are a little bit weaker than you, and guys that are a little bit stronger than you. And how you approach each of those situations, it presents you with some choices that you're going to have to make."

Gotham Knights was initially planned for a 2021 release but was delayed to 2022 due to performance issues and a need for more development time. According to the game's official Twitter account, "We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players. Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months."
